Here are the detailed instructions on how to do this whole process. Copy it, print it out, write it down:
- Bend the light bracket so it’s flat (as flat as you can get it).
- Remove the handlebar bracket off the headlight.
- Grab your plug (whether you’re using the Rideal one, or you purchased the one I did, cut it to expose the positive and negative wires.
- Using the 12-14 gauge slot, strip off the black coating to expose the positive and negative wires.
- Strip the 24 gauge (small positive and negative) wires on the plug and do the same thing to the ones on the headlight.
- Grab one bigger heat shrink (slightly bigger than the black cable) and 2 small pieces of heat shrink (slightly bigger than the 2 thinner cables).
- Slide the bigger heat shrink over the entire bundle of cables.
- Cut the thin pieces of heat shrink into 2 1″ pieces.
- Slide the smaller pieces of heat shrink over the small positive and negative wires.
- Curl the stripped cable ends (the metal pieces) and make hooks on all 4 cables.
- Take the positive wires from the headlight and the plug and hook them together, then twisting them, so they remain attached to each other.
- Warm up your soldering iron, grab your solder, and solder the positive wires together and the negative wires together.
- Slide the small pieces of heat shrink over the soldered wires.
- Heat the heat shrink up and form it over the soldered joints.
- Slide the bigger heat shrink over the bundle of cables.
- Heat the bigger heat shrink and form it over the bundle.
- As an extra precaution, cover the heat shrink in electrical tape.
- Plug the in the cable, power on the bike, and test the light.
- Mount the bracket from the light to the bracket on your bike or basket/rack.
- Zip tie the cables on the underneath of the basket.
